Man dead, woman arrested for impaired driving in Peguis First Nation crash: RCMP

A 24-year-old woman is suspected of impaired driving after police say she was involved in a wrong-way collision that killed a man in Manitoba’s Interlake region early Thursday.

Fisher Branch RCMP officers went to a two-vehicle collision on Provincial Road 224 in Peguis First Nation just after midnight.

Police say they determined a 48-year-old man from Peguis First Nation was driving an ATV heading south in a northbound lane when it crashed head-on with an SUV travelling northbound.

The man on the ATV was taken to hospital, where he later died, according to a police news release.

A 24-year-old woman from Peguis First Nation was driving the SUV at the time of the crash, police allege. There were four other people inside, police said. None were injured.

RCMP said the driver was arrested at the scene and was later taken to the Fisher RCMP detachment, where she provided breath samples. She remains in custody, said police.
