Winnipeg sex offender Winston Thomas released from jail again, police warn

A convicted sex offender who has been repeatedly released from jail and re-arrested has been released once again and is expected to live in Winnipeg.

Winston George Thomas, 47, is considered a high risk to reoffend in a sexual and possibly violent manner against all females, both adults and children, says a notification from the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit, a joint forces unit of the Winnipeg Police Service and RCMP.

Thomas was released from Headingley Correctional Centre on Thursday after serving a sentence of 13 months for failing to abide by a curfew and abstain from intoxicants.

He has a long history of being released from jail and re-arrested. His criminal record includes convictions for sexual assault, break and enter, aggravated assault, resisting arrest, choking and numerous breaches of court orders.

Thomas’s lengthy criminal record includes a 2003 conviction for breaking into a woman’s house and sexually assaulting her.

He was convicted again in 2006 of sexually assaulting another woman, and then again in 2008 of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl he did not know.

“This information is provided to enable members of the public to take suitable measures to protect themselves. Any form of vigilante activity or other unreasonable conduct directed at Winston George Thomas will not be tolerated,” says the release from the MIHRSOU.

Anyone with information about Thomas, or who wishes to speak to a police officer, is asked to call the sex offender unit at 204-984-1888.
