Winnipeg police look for man after armed robberies along bike path
A man has been arrested and police are looking for another they say was involved in a string of armed robberies along a Winnipeg bicycle path from Sept. 26 to Oct. 1.
The first robbery was around 6:30 a.m., when a 24-year-old man was walking along the path, which runs parallel to Fermor Avenue between St. Anne’s Road and Archibald Street. He was approached by a man holding a weapon, then robbed and assaulted but not injured, police said in a news release on Monday.
About 10 minutes later, a 59-year-old man cycling the path near Archibald was confronted by a man holding a weapon. He was robbed but not injured, police said.
On Oct. 1, around 6:20 a.m., a 51-year-old man was cycling the path near Archibald when he was confronted by two men walking toward him from the opposite direction. He was assaulted and robbed and, as in the other incidents, one of the men was armed with a weapon, police said.
The 51-year-old suffered a number of injuries but none that required medical attention.
On Oct. 5, police arrested a 23-year-old man on Autumnwood Drive, near Cottonwood Road. He faces a charge of armed robbery.
A second man, identified by police as Allen James Aitken, 45, is still being sought.
He is described as heavy-set, weighing around 235 pounds and standing about six feet tall. He has short brown hair and blue eyes.
