Man arrested after woman sexually assaulted, confined in west Winnipeg home

A 39-year-old man has been arrested after police say he lured and sexually assaulted a woman at a home he broke into in west Winnipeg.

The attack happened Monday evening, when a man approached an adult woman in the 3300 block of Portage Avenue, near Westwood Drive.

The man talked to the woman before luring her to a nearby residence, which he then broke into, police said in a Thursday news release.

He then barricaded the woman inside, preventing her from leaving.

Inside the home, he physically and sexually assaulted the woman, leaving her unconscious at one point, police said.

He also threatened to kill the woman and then robbed her.

The woman was eventually able to escape from the residence when the man fell asleep. She called police, who found the man still asleep in the home and arrested him.

Kyle Thomas Quill, a 39-year-old Winnipeg man, faces several charges, including sexual assault, forcible confinement, uttering threats, robbery, and breaking and entering.

For anyone who has been sexually assaulted, there is support available through crisis lines and local support services via the Ending Violence Association of Canada database. If you’re in immediate danger or fear for your safety or that of others around you, please call 911.
