Residents asked to boil water before consumption in RM of MacDonald
Residents in a commercial and farmland area just outside of Winnipeg will have to boil their water before drinking it, preparing food or brushing their teeth with it starting Tuesday night.
A boil water advisory was issued by Manitoba’s Medical Officer of Health on Monday for a stretch of land in the northeast corner of the rural municipality of MacDonald.
The area placed under the advisory is bounded to the east by Brady Road, to the west by La Salle Road 9 East and Loudoun Road 9 East and sits in between Four Mile Road to the north and roughly half a mile — or almost a kilometre — south of Road 53 Northeast to the south.
Tap water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least a minute before being consumed after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, the advisory said.
Residents should also avoid swallowing tap water while showering, children should be sponge bathed and those who can’t boil water should consume bottled water.
The advisory comes as scheduled construction to tie in a new reservoir servicing the McGillivray Business Park, which could lead to “poorly treated water” being distributed in the area.
The advisory will remain in place until the water supply system no longer presents a risk to public health, but a date was not mentioned in the public health notice.
