Police investigating ‘suspicious death’ of woman at Woodbridge home

York Regional Police say they are treating the death of a woman at a home in Woodbridge as suspicious.

Police said they were called to a home on Isa Court, near Langstaff Road and Highway 27, at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday for reports of a stabbing.

Investigators said a woman in her 60s was pronounced dead at the scene. Police initially said she had suffered stab wounds.

A man in his 70s was taken into custody, police said.

Const. Lisa Moskaluk told reporters that as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, no charges had been laid.

There is no public safety concern and the incident was all contained in the house, police told Global News.

“At this time, we are treating this incident as suspicious and an isolated incident,” Moskaluk said.

Moskaluk said the homicide unit has been called in.

She would not elaborate on the relationship between the victim and the man in custody. However, she said both lived at the home.

She said a post-mortem will be conducted in the coming days to determine the exact cause of death.
