Power restored to more than 6,000 Manitoba Hydro customers near Lake Winnipeg

Manitoba Hydro has restored power to more than 6,000 Manitoba Hydro customers along the east side of Lake Winnipeg’s southern basin.

People in the Sagkeeng First Nation area and in Manitoba cottage country around Grand Marais, south and north of Grand Beach, were affected by the outage, which Hydro said was caused by wildlife. Grand Marais is more than 80 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg in the rural municipality of St. Clements.

Manitoba Hydro first tweeted about the outage before 6 a.m.

Manitoba Hydro’s online outage map showed more than 6,200 customers from Beaconia to Wanasing Beach were affected. Another 328 customers living in Sagkeeng were also without power Monday morning.

Hydro says power was restored at 8:30 a.m. — its originally estimated time for restoration.
