Manitoba to give COVID-19 vaccine update after announcing eligibility expansion

WINNIPEG — The Manitoba government is set to give an update on the province’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout on Friday.

Dr. Joss Reimer, medical lead for Manitoba’s Vaccine Implementation Task Force, will be speaking at a teleconference at 11 a.m. CTV News Winnipeg will live-stream the event.

This news conference comes the day after the Manitoba government announced its expanding vaccine eligibility in the province.

Health officials said the province will be expanding criteria to include frontline responders, and people over the age of 18 who live in geographic areas disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. Certain public-public-facing roles in these areas, which could include teachers, will also be included in the expansion.

As of Thursday afternoon, Manitoba has received 486,810 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, 308,576 of which have been administered.

This is a developing story. More details to come.
