Man dies after stolen SUV veers into farm tractor on southwestern Manitoba highway

A 31-year-old driving a stolen SUV died on Monday morning after veering into a farm tractor in southwestern Manitoba, police say.

The SUV was heading south on Highway 21 just south of Provincial Road 543 when it veered over the centre line and crashed head-on into a farm tractor headed south, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday morning.

The crash, in the rural municipality of Sifton, was reported to police just after 9 a.m. The 31-year-old man from Stonewall driving the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV had been stolen from Winnipeg, the news release said.

The 21-year-old man driving the farm tractor was not physically hurt.

Highway 21, between Highway 543 and Highway 2, was closed for much of Monday due to the crash, but reopened later in the day.
