Man, 80, dead after pickup truck collided with semi-trailer on Highway 30

Around 4:15 p.m. Saturday, RCMP got a report about a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 30 and Provincial Road 421, which is about three kilometres south of the town of Altona, police said in a news release on Monday.

An 80-year-old man died on Saturday after his pickup truck collided with a semi-trailer in southeastern Manitoba, police say.

Around 4:15 p.m. Saturday, RCMP got a report about a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 30 and Provincial Road 421, which is about three kilometres south of the town of Altona, police said in a news release on Monday.

Investigators learned that an 80-year-old Altona man driving a pickup truck southward down Highway 30 had tried to turn east onto Provincial Road 421 before he collided with a semi-trailer headed north, which was driven by a 29-year-old man.

The 80-year-old was pronounced dead at the site of the crash, police say. The 29-year-old driving the semi-trailer was not hurt.
