RCMP in northern Manitoba say a 27-year-old man who had been missing since April 3 has been found safe.

The man left Thompson that day and was headed to Split Lake, about 125 kilometres to the northeast, RCMP said in a news release on Saturday when the missing person alert was issued.

He was expected to reach the community on the evening of April 5. When he didn’t show up, he was reported missing the next day.

RCMP said the man made a social media post April 8 to let people know he was OK, but no one had seen or heard from him since.

Police issued an updated news release on Monday, saying the man has been found.

A previous version of this story included the man’s name and photograph. Those have both been removed to protect his privacy.
