Intruder attacks student while she was asleep in University of Manitoba residence

A woman was assaulted on Friday while she was asleep at her university student housing residence by an unknown intruder, Winnipeg police say.

In a news release, police said they responded to a report of the break, enter and assault at the University of Manitoba student housing complex on Friday at 4:45 a.m. at Dafoe Road.

The man entered the woman’s room and physically assaulted her, police say.

According to the release,the woman fought off the man and yelled for help. University security services contacted police and reported the assault.

Police are seeking public assistance in finding the attacker. He is described as an adult male, 5’10”- 6′ in height, with unkempt facial hair and long, unkempt hair. He was wearing a black jacket with a grey hoodie, possibly blue jeans and black shoes with a black-and-blue backpack.

Police say they are working closely with the University of Manitoba while the sex crimes unit investigates.
