Inmate escapes from Stony Mountain Institution, says Correctional Services of Canada

Correctional Services of Canada is warning that an inmate from Stony Mountain Institution, a federal correctional facility just north of Winnipeg, has escaped.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, CSC posted on social media that Owen Spence escaped from the prison.

Spence, 25, is an inmate from the minimum security area of the facility but was missing this evening at the 7 p.m. headcount, Manitoba RCMP said in a tweet just before 10 p.m.

Spence is described as 5’10” and 200 lbs, with brown hair and brown eyes, police say.

RCMP believe he may heading toward Brandon, Man.

Spence has a history of violence, so citizens should not approach him, police say.

Instead, anyone who has information about his whereabouts should call police at 204-986-6222.

Stony Mountain is located nearly 25 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.
