A Manitoba Hydro employee is dead after performing work related to a power outage Thursday morning at one of the corporation’s work sites in the Interlake region.

Authorities are still investigating how the worker died, but the Crown utilities corporation said there is no risk to public safety at this time.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to the individual’s loved ones, friends and coworkers,” Manitoba Hydro said in a news release Thursday. “We are devastated to lose a member of our Manitoba Hydro family.”

Manitoba Hydro said it is “fully co-operating” with the investigation into the worker’s death. The Crown utilities corporation said it is supporting the victim’s family and will not release information on the deceased employee out of respect for the person’s privacy.
