CUPE health-care workers reject deal

Most health-care workers with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) have rejected a deal between their union and three Manitoba health authorities, including the one in Winnipeg.

In a vote, CUPE 204 members with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Shared Health rejected the agreement.

In Southern Health – Santé-Sud, the vote was split as community support workers rejected the tentative agreement, while facility support workers accepted it.

In an update on Thursday, CUPE said it will be heading back to the bargaining table with a strike mandate from the membership. A date for the strike has not yet been set.

Southern Health facility support workers are excluded from the strike mandate as they accepted the agreement.

CTV News Winnipeg has reached out to CUPE for more information.
