Community programs working with men, boys to tackle gender-based violence to get $811K funding
Five community programs in Manitoba working with men and boys to end gender-based and intimate partner violence have received $811,000 from the province.
Manitoba’s NDP government announced the funding on Wednesday, with the largest chunk, $220,000, going to the Elmwood Community Resource Centre
Winnipeg’s Aboriginal Health and Wellness and Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata centres are getting $200,000.
The NorWest Men’s Relationship Program will receive $166,000 and $25,000 will go to the Northern Men and Boys Programming at The Pas Family Resource Centre, the province said.
The funding is under a bilateral agreement struck with the federal government as part of Canada’s decade-long action plan to end gender-based violence, the province said in a news release Wednesday.
Last year, both levels of government announced a new round of combined funding, with $6.2 million coming from the federal government and $6.35 million being allocated by the province for 19 community initiatives.
A separate program, the Moose Hide Campaign, an Indigenous-led grassroots initiative engaging men and boys with supportive communities to respond to intimate partner violence, previously received $250,000 in funding.
