A child died Thanksgiving Day after falling from a highrise apartment building in Winnipeg.

Police say the four-year-old fell from a 19th-floor window of the 20-storey building around 5 p.m. on Monday.

The building, known as Cumberland House, is near the corner of Cumberland Avenue and Carlton Street in the city’s Central Park neighbourhood.

The Winnipeg Police Service’s child abuse unit is investigating, as it does in most cases of child deaths, a police spokesperson said.

No information was provided on the sex of the child or if any charges are pending.
