Woman dead after suspected unprovoked daylight attack on downtown Toronto street: police

A suspect has been arrested and an elderly woman is dead after a reportedly unprovoked assault on a downtown Toronto street Friday morning, police say.

Toronto police said the incident occurred on Friday at around 11:39 a.m., in the area of Yonge and King streets.

Police said officers receivedreports that a male suspect was assaulting a female.

“Woman is now deceased,” police said in a tweet.

According to police, the suspect fled the scene.

In an update at around 2:15 p.m., police said the suspect had been arrested.

Police told Global News the alleged assault occurred on the street.

Officers said initial reports from the scene suggest it was an unprovoked attack.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
