Hot and humid weather in store for Toronto on Monday and Tuesday

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Toronto starting Monday and continuing into Tuesday.

Daytime highs are expected to reach 31 C with humidex values making it feel more like 35 to 38, the federal weather agency said on Sunday.

“There will be little relief through the overnight as lows are expected to be 20 C or above,” Environment Canada said.

A cooler air mass is expected to arrive on Tuesday night.

During heat events, people are advised to watch for the effects of health illness, the weather agency said, including swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The elderly, young children, disabled people, pregnant people and those with physical or mental illnesses face greater health risks, the agency said.

People are advised to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water, even before you feel thirsty, Environment Canada said.

The weather agency also warned people to not leave anyone, particularly children or pets, inside a parked vehicle.
