Man in hospital after officer fires gun, Toronto police say

A man was taken to hospital after a Toronto police officer fired his gun in Cabbagetown on Tuesday, according to Toronto police.
The shooting happened in the area of Carlton and Parliament streets at about 7:15 p.m., Toronto police said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Police said the man was armed with a knife.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate and is investigating.
Carlton Street is closed from Parliament Street to Sherbourne Street for the investigation.
