Spring storm brings strong winds, rain to Toronto; special weather statement in effect

A spring storm brought strong winds and some rain to Toronto on Tuesday night, with more in the forecast, according to Environment Canada.

The city remained under a special weather statement as of 10 p.m.

Environment Canada, which issued the statement earlier on Tuesday, said a Colorado low was expected to bring 25 to 50 millimetres of rain, beginning Tuesday evening and continuing Wednesday.

“Rain should transition to snow late Wednesday as temperatures cool, although significant amounts are not expected,” the agency said.

There is the potential for wet snow late Wednesday into Thursday, the federal weather agency said.

Strong easterly winds, with gusts exceeding 80 km/h in some areas, were also in the forecast for Tuesday evening.

The winds will ease on Wednesday, Environment Canada said.
