Environment Canada says a “significant” snowfall is expected for Toronto on Friday and it could have an impact on the evening commute.

The federal weather agency issued a snowfall warning Friday morning, saying the forecast calls for up to 15 centimetres of snow.

Light snow is expected to start falling in the morning but should become more intense in the afternoon and evening, and to taper off from west to east late Friday night.

The snow could reduce visibility in some areas where the snow is heavier, Environment Canada said.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” the federal weather agency said.

There is also a risk of freezing rain for areas near Lake Erie Friday evening, it added.
