Man arrested after Toronto dog attack that sent woman to hospital

A man has been arrested after a dog attack left a woman with life-altering injuries in Toronto last month.

In a news release, Toronto police say a 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged with various offences including dog biting a person, criminal negligence and disobeying a court order.

Police say a woman was at a bus stop in the city’s northwest end on the night of Feb. 7 when two dogs without leashes or their owner present approached and began to attack her.

The woman tried to defend herself with a shopping cart, when the dogs dragged the woman to the ground and continued attacking her.

Police say the woman managed to hide in a passerby’s vehicle, and was taken to hospital to be treated for serious life-altering injuries.

Police have said another person followed the dogs after the attack and saw them attack a cyclist, attempt to attack a resident in his yard, and finally, attempt to attack a TTC Wheel-Trans operator, who was able to close the vehicle’s doors in time.

Investigators say they are still searching for the two dogs involved in the incident and are warning the public not to approach the animals if they see them.

The dogs are black and white in colour with larger builds. They are described as “possibly” pit bull terriers or a similar breed.
