Man dead after dispute, stabbing outside Toronto apartment building

Toronto police say a man in his 30s has died after he was stabbed outside an apartment building early Friday.

Police said the stabbing happened just before 7 a.m. on Weston Road near Sheppard Avenue West.

Insp. Peter Wehby told reporters a man was found with a stab wound outside of an apartment building and was rushed to hospital.

He later died from his injuries in hospital, police said.

Wehby said investigators believe a dispute happened inside of the apartment building and then spilled outside where the victim was found.

A man in his 40s with a knife was arrested at the scene, Wehby said. No charges have been announced.

“The males appear to have known each other and this appears to be a very targeted incident and there’s no risk to anyone else,” Wehby said.

Wehby also said the victim and the suspect “were known to the building” and “known to stay here” but would not confirm if they were residents of the apartment building.

The homicide unit has been called in to investigate the death.
