82-year-old woman in wheelchair dead after being hit by dump truck in Toronto’s east end

An 82-year-old woman in a wheelchair is dead after she was hit by a dump truck in Toronto’s east end on Tuesday afternoon, police say.

The collision happened on Danforth Avenue near Main Street. Police were called to the scene at about 3:10 p.m.

Police said the woman iwas crossing from the south east corner to the north east corner of Danforth Avenue and Main Street when she was struck by the dump truck driven by a 53-year-old man. She was in the crosswalk at the time.

The man was driving northbound on Main Street and had turned right to head eastbound on Danforth Avenue when he struck the woman.

Police said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services,” police said in a news release on Tuesday night..

Police are asking local residents, businesses, and drivers who may have security or dashboard camera footage of the area or incident to contact investigators.

Officers closed Main Street from Danforth Avenue to Gerrard Street East and Danforth Avenue from Main Street to Westlake Avenue for the investigation.
