1 dead, 3 hurt after ‘targeted’ daytime shooting at home north of Toronto

One person is dead and three others are injured after a daytime shooting at a home in Vaughan on Friday, police say.

York Regional Police Const. Lisa Moskaluk said that shortly before 9 a.m., officers were called to a home on Casa Nova Drive, which is west of Weston and Davos roads, for the sound of gunshots.

Officers found four victims inside the home, two of whom had life-threatening injuries and two whose injuries are unknown, Moskaluk said.

One of the victims died at the scene while the other three were taken to hospital.

“Early indications are that this incident is targeted and isolated, and that there is no immediate risk to the public,” Moskaluk said.

There is no word on the ages or genders of the victims, or what their relationship may be with one another.

Moskaluk said she was unaware of whether there was an exchange of gunfire or if a firearm was located inside the home.

Officers were in the neighbourhood canvassing for evidence.

Moskaluk said investigators will be looking into any past incidents that may have happened at the home or in the neighbourhood.

“That will be something that they’ll try to piece together to determine what the motive was and why these people were targeted today,” she said.

She also said investigators will be looking into the backgrounds of the people in the home, as well as any relationships they had that could have led to the shooting.

Moskaluk appealed for anyone with information or who was in the area at the time and hasn’t yet spoken with police to come forward.
