Systems restored at multiple Toronto hospitals after outage: UHN

A major Toronto hospital network said it has restored its online systems following an outage Wednesday that caused appointment and service delays at several hospitals.

Toronto’s University Health Network (UHN) first reported on the outage shortly before 7:30 a.m. UHN later said it identified an “ongoing code grey” network outage across its sites.

At around 12:45 p.m., UHN said it had restored its website, health information system and patient portal. It said all other systems are “coming back online.”

Patients may experience appointment delays for the remainder of the day as backlogs are cleared, the hospital network noted.

The outage affected the network’s website as well as patient portal and patient record systems at Toronto General, Toronto Western, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. The hospital network has not said what the cause of the system outage is but Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones said at a news conference on Wednesday that the outage was due to stormy weather and strong winds that morning.

A “limited” number of procedures were cancelled and are being rebooked by clinic staff as a result of the temporary outage, the hospital network said.

UHN said the network outage was not related to any sort of cyber attack.
