Highway near Brooks closed due to train derailment
A highway near Brooks is closed due to a train derailment, 511 Alberta reports.
In a social media post at around 6:25 p.m. on Saturday, 511 Alberta said Highway 873 and Highway 1A in the east end of Brooks are closed in both directions because of a train derailment.
An RCMP spokesperson confirmed to Global News officers were called to help the fire department with a train derailment at 4:34 p.m. Police said 17 train cars “jumped the tracks” and derailed.
No injuries were reported and no dangerous goods were on the train, police said.
In a statement to Global News, CPKC said:
“Multiple cars of a CPKC train derailed just east of Brooks, Alberta just after 4:30 p.m. Monday night. There were no injuries and the involved cars are carrying shipping containers. CPKC teams are responding to the site to begin a full assessment and clean up. The cause of the derailment is under investigation.”
