Rare Pokémon card worth $7K returned to seller after being stolen: York police

Four people have been charged after allegedly stealing a rare $7,000 Pokémon card from a seller in Vaughan on Saturday.

York Regional Police were called to a parking lot in the Jane Street and Rutherford Road area just after 10 p.m., where a the victim planned to sell “1999 Charizard – Holo Shadowless” trading card, police said.

When the victim arrived, two suspects got out of a vehicle and approached him, police said in a news release Tuesday.

As the victim took out the card, one of the suspects grabbed it and ran back toward the vehicle, where two more suspects were waiting.

The victim attempted to follow the suspects, when one suspect brandished a knife, police said. The victim noted the licence plate before the suspects took off, they added.

The vehicle was followed into Toronto, where the suspects were arrested in the Parliament Street and Richmond Street East area, the news release said.

The card was recovered and returned to the victim, police said.

A 20-year-old man, a 16-year-old boy and two 17-year-old boys have been charged with robbery/theft with violence or threats of violence, as well as possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

All of the accused are from Toronto, police said.

The man was also charged with failure to comply with a release order. Police said the accused is already before the courts on unrelated charges.

One of the 17-year-olds, also before the courts on unrelated charges, was also charged with two counts of breaching probation.
