Man charged with murder of woman in ‘intimate partner homicide’: Edmonton police

A man has been charged with the second-degree murder of a woman found dead late last month on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, Edmonton police said Sunday.

Daniel Boothman, 31, was arrested and charged on Friday, four days after Ashley Burke, 43, was found dead on the riverbank east of the Quesnell Bridge in west-central Edmonton near Whitemud Park, the Edmonton Police Service said in a media release.

An autopsy finished Thursday determined Burke, whose bound was found Dec. 30 at 4:45 p.m., had died of homicide, police said, adding the cause of death is being concealed for investigative reasons.

The two knew each other, police said, and that Burke’s death is considered an intimate partner homicide.
