Police to provide update on Edmonton extortion series today
Edmonton police will provide on Wednesday an update on their investigation into a series of extortions and fires affecting local South Asian home builders.
As of February, 10 builders had been targeted and 34 “events” – arsons, extortion attempts, shootings, threats, and suspicious vehicles or people – had been linked to the case since mid-October.
According to the last update from police, investigators had identified 12 “targets” and “many more associates.” One of the 12 had fled to India but has “historical ties to Edmonton.”
Five adults and one minor have been charged in what Edmonton Police Service is calling “Project Gaslight.”
