Police say three people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a shooting a West Edmonton Mall.

EPS asked people to stay away from the shopping centre Monday night, but said people should be “mindful of misinformation circulating online” about the incident.

The mall is currently on lockdown, according to an Edmonton Police Service statement sent out just before 9 p.m. It’s unclear how long the lockdown has been in effect.

Police said there are “concerns for public safety” and asked that pedestrians and motorists keep away from the area.

The Edmonton Transit Service said the transit centre at the mall is currently closed, and buses are being rerouted to 95th Avenue between 170th and 178th Street.

CBC News has reached out to West Edmonton Mall for comment.

More to come.
