Man dead after being pulled from Lake Ontario near Bluffer’s Park

A man in his 20s is dead after he was pulled from Lake Ontario near Bluffer’s Park Beach on Monday, Toronto police say.

Emergency services were initially called to the popular Scarborough beach around 4 p.m. for reports of a person in distress in the water about 150 metres from shore, according to police.

It appears the man was on an inflatable flotation device that deflated in the water, police said.

Toronto police’s marine unit, firefighters and civilian boaters spent roughly 90 minutes searching the lake and surrounding shoreline for the man.

He was eventually found by firefighters and transferred onto a police boat. He was then rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

“As this is a non criminal matter, we will not be providing any further information,” a Toronto police spokesperson said in an email Tuesday morning.
