Rollover crash on QEII shuts down northbound traffic near Olds

Northbound traffic on the Queen Elizabeth Highway is being rerouted after a rollover near Olds that resulted in one person suffering life-threatening injuries, RCMP say.

The single vehicle crash happened at about 9:15 a.m. when a southbound SUV lost control about two kilometres south of the Highway 27 overpass. It rolled over and landed in the northbound lane.

One person in the SUV suffered life-threatening injuries and another was less seriously hurt, RCMP said in a release.

A STARS air ambulance was dispatched to the scene.

Traffic has been diverted at the Didsbury overpass at Highway 582.

RCMP said traffic will be rerouted until at least 1:15 p.m. as crews continue to work. Motorists are asked to find alternative routes, be aware of emergency personnel and drive to the conditions.

“Ice on the roadway and blowing snow may impact driving conditions,” RCMP said.
