The remains of a hiker who went missing from a southern Alberta campground last spring have been found, the Calgary Police Service said Wednesday.
Stanley Stooshinoff, 68, was last seen leaving his home in southeast Calgary on May 19 for a hike in the Turner Valley area.
He was reported missing after failing to return home.
Calgary police, RCMP, Alberta Parks and Search and Rescue conducted an extensive search.
Investigators located Stooshinoff’s vehicle — a green Hyundai Tucson — in the Sandy McNabb campground, about 80 kilometres southwest of Calgary, but were unable to find him.
Hunters in the area came across human remains on Sept. 8 that medical examiners later identified as Stooshinoff.
Police said his death was not considered suspicious, and no more information will be shared.
