Northeast Calgary collision leaves one woman dead

A 69-year-old woman has been killed after she was hit by a vehicle on Tuesday morning.

At approximately 7:40 a.m., police said they responded to a serious collision that occurred at the intersection of 68th Street N.E. and 12th Avenue N.E. where a 69-year-old woman was struck.

Police believe the victim used a marked crosswalk to cross 68th Street N.E., while a 62-year-old man behind the wheel of a Mitsubishi Outlander was driving south on 68th Street N.E. and struck the woman.

The driver remained on-scene following the collision, police said.

The woman sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition where she later died.

Police said neither excessive speed or impaired driving are considered to be factors in this collision.

No charges have been laid at this time and the Calgary Police Service Traffic Section continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
