Man shot in leg by Calgary police during firearms call

An investigation is underway after police shot a person in northeast Calgary on Thursday evening.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Templebow Way N.E. at about 6:55 p.m. for multiple reports that a man “was engaging in erratic behaviour, including following a person while carrying a firearm, pointing a firearm at a person, assaulting a person with a firearm, and an attempted carjacking,” police said in a release.

One officer shot the suspect in the leg. He was taken into custody and transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No Calgary police members or members of the public were injured, police said.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was called in and will lead the investigation.

ASIRT investigates serious allegations of police misconduct and when death or serious injury may have been caused by police.
