Early morning apartment fire in Mayland Heights sends man to hospital

One person is in hospital after an apartment fire in northeast Calgary on Saturday.

About 50 people were able to get out of the apartment building prior to the fire department’s arrival at the fire in Mayland Heights at around 5 a.m.

Fire crews were faced with a large volume of fire and heavy smoke coming from a six-storey apartment block on McHugh Court.

The fire department was able to contain the damage to one suite of the building.

Approximately 50 people had safely escaped the building before fire crews arrived to attack the blaze.

The occupant of that suite sustained fire-related injuries and was transported to hospital by AHS.

No one else was injured.
