Cochrane RCMP were called out to the neighbourhood of Riversong around 5 a.m. on Sept. 26 for reports of a suspicious male, who was seen attempting to break into numerous vehicles.
After searching the area, police arrested the man attempting to leave in a stolen vehicle.
The suspect, who carried a backpack, was found to have broken into several vehicles and to have dumped stolen property into various yards as he made his way through the neighbourhood.
Residents worked with police to identify and return the valuables to owners.
“This incident shows how Cochrane is a community where neighbours look out for each other,” said Cochrane RCMP Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant Dave Brunner in a release. “The communication between neighbours and the willingness to work with the police was essential to the successful outcome in this investigation.”
Kyle Wade Kohlman, 31 of Calgary, has been charged with 16 offences. The charges include two counts of failure to comply with a release order, three counts of failure to comply with probation, four counts of mischief and four counts of theft under $5,000. Kohlman has also been charged with possession of property obtained by crime and operating a vehicle while prohibited.
Kohlman will appear in Cochrane Provincial Court on Tuesday, Sept. 29.
