Calgary police investigating ‘targeted’ shooting

Calgary police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Monday morning in the city’s northwest they believe to be a targeted incident.
Police found a deceased man in the driver’s seat of a 2009 Chevrolet Avalanche stopped at the intersection of 16th Avenue N.W. and Fourth Street N.W. when they arrived on the scene shortly after midnight, according to a media release.
Officers were still on scene later in morning.

Witnesses reported that an unknown vehicle pulled up behind the victim’s truck as it was stopped at a red light. The alleged perpetrator then exited the vehicle and fired several rounds of gunfire at the victim before fleeing east along 16 Avenue N.W.
“This was a significantly violent attack on a busy road in our city,” said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the CPS Homicide Unit, in a statement.
“While we are still relatively early in the investigation, we are dedicating a number of resources to suppress further violence and hold those responsible accountable.”
