Provincial police say they are looking for three people who ran away from a fatal crash on Highway 400 early Thursday.

The collision happened around 5:10 a.m. in the southbound lanes where highways 400 and 401 meet in Toronto.

According to OPP Const. Taylor Konkle, a BMW was speeding when it rear-ended a box truck, causing the BMW to spin and slam into a concrete barrier.

One person inside the BMW was killed in the crash. Three other people who were also inside that vehicle then left the scene on foot, Konkle said.

Police have not identified the deceased and do not have descriptions of the people who left the collision. Investigators are encouraging anyone with information or anyone who may have noticed anything unusual in the area around the time of the collision to contact them.

A third vehicle was also involved in the crash in a “minor way,” Konkle said. No further injuries were reported.

The southbound Highway 400 was closed at Finch Avenue for the investigation. Konkle could not say when the highway may reopen.
