CALGARY — One person was taken into custody after three pedestrians were hit by a vehicle — one suffering fatal injuries — early Thursday evening in the city’s southwest.
The incident took place at around 8:15 p.m. near the intersection of Macleod Trail and Glenmore Trail, just south of CF Chinook Centre.
One pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene while the other two were transported by ambulance to hospital.
EMS officials confirm a child was transported from the scene to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in life-threatening condition while an adult was transported to the Foothills Medical Centre in non-life-threatening condition but with multiple, serious injuries.
A third patient, believed to be the driver of the vehicle, was also transported to hospital as a precautionary measure.
A GMC crossover with front-end damage that had stopped in the southbound lanes of Macleod Trail was a focus of the police investigation into the fatal collision.
Calgary Police Service officials confirm one person was taken into custody in connection with the investigation and charges are pending.
All roads in the area have since reopened to traffic. Police had rerouted southbound traffic and the eastbound ramp of Glenmore Trail approaching Fifth Street S.W. was also closed for several hours.
