Driver dead after speeding through red light on New Year’s Day: EPS

A 41-year-old woman is dead after speeding through a red light on Yellowhead Trail during the early hours of New Year’s Day, police say.
Edmonton Police Service (EPS) say a 41-year-old man was driving a Toyota Rav 4 northbound on 66 Street, making a left turn westbound on Yellowhead Trail.
At the same time, police say the woman driving a Jeep was going eastbound and sped through the intersection at a red light, hitting the other driver.
Police say the driver of the Jeep wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was taken to hospital where she later died from her injuries.
The driver of the Toyota was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
EPS believe alcohol and speed from the driver of the Jeep are factors in the crash.
