12-year-old boy in serious condition after southwest Calgary crash

Three people are in hospital, including a child in serious condition, after a Friday morning crash in the southwest Calgary community of Belmont.

Around 7:40 a.m., Calgary police responded to 210 Avenue and Belmont Drive S.W. after a 12-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle.

Police say the boy was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in serious condition.

His injuries are life-altering, but he is stable, police say.

A woman in her 30s and a child inside the vehicle, a red 2020 Toyota Corolla, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police say Friday’s incident remains under investigation, but speed, alcohol and drugs are not considered factors.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash-cam footage of the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234.

Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Clarissa Go has lived in Belmont for a couple of months and says her children walk across that intersection to get to school.

“Every day when they cross that intersection, I feel really scared for them,” she said.

“I always remind them to look around, you know, left and right and back, and I tell them to not use their phones while crossing the intersection.”

She recalls a two-vehicle crash happened at the same spot last month.
