Winnipeg police charge woman, 41, after 2 people stabbed on Main Street

Winnipeg police have charged a 41-year-old woman after two people were stabbed on Main Street and taken to hospital, with one in unstable condition.

Police were called around 5 p.m. Wednesday about a stabbing on Main Street between Sutherland and Stella avenues, they said in a news release Thursday.

While en route, police saw a woman brandishing an edged weapon on the corner of Main Street and Dufferin Avenue, and she matched the description they’d been given.

Police arrested and charged Sarah Marie Whitmore with two counts of assault with a weapon and failing to comply with the condition of a release order. Whitmore remains in police custody.

A 41-year-old man with stab wounds approached officers, and they provided medical care. He was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police found a 34-year-old man nearby who had also been stabbed. He had upper body injuries and was taken to hospital in unstable condition and was later upgraded to stable.

Police said a confrontation happened between a woman and the 34-year-old man on Main Street before she stabbed him.

The woman fled and then approached the 41-year-old man and, unprovoked, stabbed him in the upper body before taking off, police said.
