Serving up Indigenous food and representation

Scott Iserhoff and his wife Svitlana Kravchuk always knew they wanted to share food and stories, but they never expected to have an Indigenous restaurant in the heart of downtown Edmonton.

The pair, who previously owned food and education company Pei Pei Chei Ow, opened Bernadette’s this spring.

The fine dining restaurant made it onto the long list for Air Canada’s Best New Restaurants after just four months.

What does reconciliation in action look like? And how can we use the way we eat, to fuel it? This week, This is Edmonton explores the soft ways we can take “reconcili-action” with host Clare Bonnyman. She talks to the owners of a new restaurant putting Indigenous representation in the spotlight and receiving recognition from across the country.

Iserhoff and Kravchuk sat down with This is Edmonton host Clare Bonnyman to talk about who Bernadette’s is named for, and the important of expanding what we think of when we say “Indigenous cuisine.”
