Boy, 16, suffers life-altering injuries after assault at Cross Lake high school grounds: RCMP

A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was assaulted in a suspected altercation between two groups on the grounds of a high school in Cross Lake, Man., over the weekend.

Cross Lake RCMP officers responded to reports of a possible stabbing on Saggitawak Road at around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, according to a Tuesday news release.

Information from multiple witnesses obtained by the RCMP suggests a group of youth were at the school when another group arrived. RCMP said the two groups had a physical altercation and the 16-year-old was severely injured.

The victim, who remains in critical condition at this time, had significant life-altering injuries and was flown over 500 kilometres south to a Winnipeg-area hospital, where he has since undergone emergency surgery.

No arrests have been made in connection to the assault.

RCMP are asking any witnesses who have yet to speak with police to contact Cross Lake RCMP Detachment at 204-676-2600, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
